On June 1, the Mountain Valley Pipeline passed the House and Senate within the Fiscal Responsibility Act Debt Ceiling Bill. The Mountain Valley Pipeline is a 303 mile pipeline that is being constructed from northwestern West Virginia to southern Virginia. The pipeline aims to run through the Jefferson National Forest to deliver natural gas. Environmental advocates and frontline communities across Appalachia have been fighting the development for a decade.
MPV is a disaster:
- 139 construction permit violations
- The project has been denied 401 Water Quality permits
- 46 water quality violations
- MVP is a carbon bomb that will run through the heart of Appalachia and disproportionately affect frontline communities
Despite massive opposition, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and President Biden pushed MVP through the debt ceiling bill – forcing it through in legislation because they knew MVP would never pass the courts. They even included language blocking federal courts and agencies from holding it to environmental standards. This means that the pipeline, having demonstrated significant threat and operating issues, will be fully developed and shielded from environmental enforcement.

The MVP is Biden’s Pipeline. It’s time to rally behind members of Congress that will protect our frontline communities by voting against fossil fuel developments like MVP. And, we need to lobby Congressional reps to join our fight.
